mother tongue

This is what happened when mother couldn't read letter in mother-tongue.

Yesterday, it took more than an hour for Mum to read a note (about postcard size) from school. What Mum could get for sure at first sight: there was a date, 9th of May. Hmm ... exam? Double checked with the exam-schedule given earlier -- it matched. Seeing the list, guessed they were columns of type of questions, number of questions, and estimated time given: in total it would be 55 questions in 80 minutes. Ok ... let's get the detail ... dictionary, please ...

And today, Kate brought home a set of exam paper (last year SA1 paper) for practise. Let's see it! There are 55 questions ... yup! Wait ... why is there ".../80"? They will not count the time spent, will they? Oops, that is the total point, not minutes! Double checking with the schedule again ... Yup, the time is 90 minutes.

As for oral exam, which was yesterday ... Mum only could trust Kate on it.

May be we need to ring Grandma more often for Kate to practise her mother-tongue :)

Malory Towers

“One day you will leave school, and go out into the world as young women. You should take with you eager minds, kind hearts, and a will to help. You should take with you a good understanding of many things, and a willingness to accept responsibility and show yourselves as women to be loved and trusted. I do not count as our successes those who have won scholarships and passed exams, though these are good things to do. I count as our successes those who learn to be good-hearted and kind, sensible and trustable, good, sound women the world can lean on.”

letters

One night, Kate gave Mum a letter:

Dear Mummy and daddy.
Thank you for the very very nice day wich is the first day of chinese New Year wich is on 18.2.07 for bringing Kate to sentosa and having a nice day. Thank you very very much.
from Kathleen Kiera

And letter below, Mum found it in mailbox on 19 March, with our address on the envelope:

Dear Mei-Che,
I wish you a very very happy term 2. Term 2 is the best in 2007 because Kate is the group leader so Kath will do the best and help Ms J. Tan.
Leader is the one who will help the teacher, Ms J. Tan.
love, Kate
